This week our punctuation train left Period Peak and headed on to Question Mark Park. At Question Mark Park, we discussed interrogative sentences. After creating an anchor chart for interrogative sentences, students worked with a punctuation pal to sort a series of words - Question Word vs. Non-Question Words. They then had to generate interrogative sentences using the question words! As a closure to our activities, students participated in a stand-up / sit-down review. I verbally gave a sentence. If the sentence was a declarative sentence and required a period, they were to stay seated. If the sentence was an interrogative sentence and required a question mark, they were to stand up!
Communicating our Mathematical Thinking In Pictures, Numbers, and Words
This week in math, we worked on problem solving and communicating our mathematical thinking in pictures, numbers, and words. We started by looking at a problem and brainstorming all of the various strategies we might use to solve the problem. We then chose one strategy and worked on demonstrating our problem solving abilities in pictures, numbers, and words. Here are the two problems we worked.
