So plans have changed just a bit in second grade. After many, many, MANY attempts at coding our Ozobots to match the action of our fairy tales, we have decided that we have given our best efforts and it is time to move on from this project. I am proud of the grit and perseverance of the group, but the technical difficulties we had with the Ozobots, made this a hard project to complete. Our efforts were worth it though because we learned about writing fairy tales, coding, and did a lot of problem solving along the way.
We are continuing our book club with the story, There's an Owl in the Shower. The students are doing a PHENOMENAL job answering the comprehension questions! We are enjoying reading the story together and independently as well as listening to the story during our D5 - Listen to Reading station. The students are speculating if Leon Watson's heart and mind will change regarding spotted owls. We are split down the middle on this! I'm also looking forward to a surprise dissection at the end of the novel :-)
In math we have continued with our balance math problems. Students are really starting to get into some tricky balances (see below)!

Packets are not done yet, but we are taking a break to do some measurement activities. Students enjoyed a fun game of Tug-o-War (on the Smartboard :-)). In this game, students played in two teams to see who could earn the most power on their side of the Tug-O-War rope by answering questions about weight in ounces, pounds, and tons. During another class period, students enjoyed stations where they worked on Dreambox, task cards, and a weight and mass game! Next week, students will have fun reviewing all measurement concepts during our measurement carnival!
