We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that regardless of what field our students choose to pursue as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and fewer students are studying it than a decade ago. That’s why every classroom at Cold Harbor is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code. More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code. The 'Hour of Code™' is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week [csedweek.org] and Code.org [code.org] to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming.
Next week (December 5-9), during Computer Science Education Week, all students at CHES will be engaged in an Hour of Code. Students will explore computer programming and coding through fun and interactive coding experiences. Whether they are coding Angry Birds, Star Wars, Moana, Minecraft, or cute little furry balls of fun with Kodable, students will be learning how to write code in order to tell a computer what to do! Be sure to ask your child about their coding expierence! If your child is interested in completing more activities like what we did in class, check out the website code.org which contains many other activities that target a range of interests.
