This week in reading we finished our chapter book, The Fenway Foul-Up. We had some rich discussion about the title of the book, the clues leading the main characters to solve the mystery, and character traits! The students really enjoyed this story. There are other mysteries in the series if your child is interested in reading them - look for the Ballpark Mysteries series at the local book store, library, or online!
Place Value - Go Fish
This week in math, we extended our study of place value to the thousands place. Students practiced writing numbers to the thousands in standard, expanded, and word form! I was really impressed with how well they did - even when the numbers were tricky (example: write seven thousand, fourteen in standard form).
To bring all of our skills together, we then played a fun game of Go Fish! Students had cards with the standard, expanded, and word form of numbers on them, and their goal was to make a set (three cards of the same number but represented in the different forms - standard, expanded, and word). We had so much fun working with numbers to the thousands!
