We continued to practice finding a fraction of a set with a fun math and art activity.
Once students determined how much of the blocks to color in blue, red, purple, green, yellow, and white, they set forth coloring their 100 blocks to create a fun mosaic! Be on the lookout for their hard work to come home in Thursday folders.
All About Owls
This week we started preparing for a fun novel study! That's right, we will be reading There's an Owl in the Shower. To get us thinking about owls, students took a quick true/false quiz to see what they already knew about these majestic creatures. Next, they did some research about owls and here is what they found out:
Where do owls live in the world?
- on every continent except Antarctica
What sounds do owls make?
- different owls make different sounds - hoots, chirps, whistles, screams,
screeches, barks, growls, and shrieks
What is an owl's part in a food web - what does it eat, what might eat it?
- owls are predators that eat small animals like moles, voles, mice, small bunnies,
and sometimes other small birds
How far can an owl rotate their head around?
- owls can rotate their heads 270 degrees
How do the following physical adaptations help owls survive?
- eyes (binocular vision) are perfect for seeing things at a distance
- ears (exceptional hearing) perfect for hearing prey at a distance
- beak so sharp for pulling food apart
- talons perfect for grabbing and holding prey
- feathers on the wings allow the owl to fly in silence which helps them sneak up
on prey
