This weeks second graders have been working hard learning about patterns and Native Americans.
To put our 21st Century Skills to work, we took on a Native American Canoe STEM Challenge. In this challenge, students had to create a canoe that was a minimum of 8 inches in length and could hold 3 passengers for 3 minutes without sinking or capsizing. They were limited on the types of materials and tools they could use, and had to work within a time limit.
While not all of our canoes passed the test, students learned a lot and really made some quality reflections following the assignment. I am very proud of them!

In math, we worked on patterns! Students participated in a fun Magic Door activity. They were presented with a door that contained a pattern question. Their job was to figure out which key contained the answer to the pattern question. They scanned a QR code that came with the key to see if they unlocked the door!
They did a great job with this activity, so we bumped it up and tried to find the rules to these function machines and tables!
