Our mathematical adventures continued this week as we dove deeper into the unknown and created coin equations. After some modeling, students worked with their math mates to create as many equations as they could representing a certain money amount ($0.45, $0.50, $0.55). I was so impressed with their thinking and their thoughtful equations. Here are some of the ones they came up with:
$0.50 = 5Q - 5D - 4N - 5P
$0.45 = 1Q + 2D
$0.55 = 3N + 4D
$0.50 = 5Q - 5D - 4N - 5P
$0.45 = 1Q + 2D
$0.55 = 3N + 4D
Reindeer Application Letters
This week students went from the brainstorming phase to the writing and editing phase with their letter to Santa (trying to convince him to select them for the lead reindeer job). The students really came up with some very creative reasons as to why they are the best reindeer to fill the position. We will put the finishing touches on them over the next week and hope to have them home before winter break!
