This week students worked to finish the Citizenship Puzzle Challenge. Between Morse Code, Pig Pen Ciphers, Binary Code, Coding with Blue Bots and Reverse Alphabet puzzles, the students were engaged, thinking critically, and problem solving the whole time. At the end of the challenges, students were left with 8 words related to their studies of citizenship:
responsibility self-reliance trustworthiness traidition
respect self-discipline citizen diverse
Students had to then take these eight citizenship words, and match them to definitions or examples. It was a challenge but a few students were able to accurately match the words and definitions / examples! Can you match the words????

During encore time, students worked in small groups with the Blue Bots. Their challenge was to come up with a 4-letter word that could be created using the letters on their Blue Bot mats. They were to then write the code that would take the Blue Bot from the start position to each letter in their word. Once the codes are written, they will trade codes with another team and challenge them to figure out the word by coding the Blue Bot to move along the mat and spell out the word. Students were given the added challenge to create a 4-letter word that related to citizenship. I am excited to report that one team figured out the word VOTE could be spelled with the letters on the mat! We will continue with this challenge in the coming week.
