This week in reading / language arts, students used teacher-approved websites to research the answers to some questions they generated on our KWL chart at the start of our snow unit. Working in pairs, students completed a graphic organizer and then began using the information they found to write a paragraph answering their question.
Questions included:
1. What makes snow white?
2. What shapes do snowflakes come in?
3. How do snowflakes form?
As students began their first drafts, we discussed the proper way to write titles as well as how to indent the first sentence of a paragraph. We will continue our writing next week and wrap up our study of snow.
In math, students were challenge to solve some place value riddles using their knowledge of place value (through the hundreds) and their problem solving and critical thinking skills. Students had to generate numbers based on a set of clues. Some riddles had more than one correct answer, which lead to some wonderful discussions!
