This week we worked on finding out all the ways we can make 8. When given two color counters, students worked strategically to find all nine ways to make 8! Through this investigation, students discovered patterns and turn around facts. Students had to represent their findings in a pictures, number sentence, word form, number bond, and part/part/whole model. Great job little guys and gals!
This week was all about learning how to grow our brains! First graders gathered in my room to to discuss how to strengthen our brains. We watched a fun video that showed how the neurons in our brain need to be challenged in order for our brains to grow! After watching a fun video, we decided it was time to take on a challenge in order to strengthen our brains! Students grabbed a handful of Keva planks and attempted to build a structure that they were only able to get s front, side, and top view of. It was hard, but with perseverance, several students were able to successfully build the structure! To wrap up our time together, we watched a fun video with some of our favorite Sesame Street characters and Bruno Mars that reminded us, even when things are challenging, DON'T GIVE UP!
