Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing spring break! It is great to be back into a routine and with the kids again. This week in math we reviewed place value to the hundreds place. Each student was given a bag containing a mystery amount of cubes. Their job was to make trades (ten ones for one ten, ten tens for one hundred) until they no longer could. Once they were done making trades, it revealed their mystery number!
Next, students visited each other's numbers, recorded the amounts on a recording sheet and compared the values of the numbers.
Categorizing Information (Main Idea & Supporting Details)
This week we worked on categorizing information (specifically, placing supporting details with the correct main idea). We started with a group activity sorting details about seahorses.
Next, students worked in groups of two to reassemble some books Mrs. Owen had written but the details from each chapter had been all mixed number. Students had to read each detail and determine which part of the book it would go in. Then they had to sequence the details appropriate to repair the book.
