It was absolutely delightful to be back with my groups this week! I am so thankful the snow is over and we can get back into a normal routine!!!
Our focus this week in math was fractions! During our math time, students completed a QR code activity I like to call "Magic Doors." Students visited several "magic doors" which contained questions relating to fraction concepts. They then had three keys to choose from to "open" the door. Once they determined which key accompanied the correct answer, they scanned the QR code of the key to see if they were correct!
Concepts included:
Understanding Equal Parts
Identifying the Numerator / Denominator
Matching Fraction to Pictorial Representation

During our reading time, we discussed how in non-fiction texts, we can gain knowledge from features in the text outside of the paragraphs. We reviewed the non-fiction text features we often see in non-fiction texts and what they help us learn or gain from the text, then we went on a non-fiction text feature scavenger hunt. Students were given various non-fiction texts and had to answer comprehension questions using the text features! Once the scavenger hunt was complete, they got to come up with their own comprehension questions for a non-fiction text.
