This week we continued to explore addition of two digit numbers with regrouping. We started by using just the place value blocks to build the numbers and then add them together, making trades along the way. Next, we transitioned into how to model with the place value blocks while also setting up and solving the equation on paper. During this time, special emphasis was placed on starting our addition in the one's place and how we denote the regrouping of 10 ones to a ten when writing the problem out.
Finally, we stretched our thinking by adding two digit numbers that extended into the hundreds place with regrouping! Students did a great job with this task, and I am confident they can solve double digit addition problems with regrouping without the use of place value blocks!
Unfortunately, there was no GT reading time this week due to my absence on Tuesday.
